About This Course

Learn to give feedback which is easy to understand, will help others learn and grow and won't sound critical

  • This course is about delivering feedback and appraisals which are free from the misunderstanding which arises from making assumptions about what is said.

  • When feedback is supported by the evidence of what you have seen and heard and how it made you think and feel then the recipient is more likely to be able to comprehend and react appropriately.

  • We introduce you to the power of metaphor as the best way to express what you see and hear and think and feel.

  • Case studies are used so that you can hear the words of good feedback sessions being given and model them to suit your own feedback sessions.

  • The course will take 40 minutes to complete followed by regular practice.

  • Take this course if your success depends on the performance of others or if people are looking to you for advice and support for their own personal development.

  • Suitable for small business owners, corporate or public sector leaders and educators.

  • It also has application in personal situations.

  • The problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place. Using this technique you can be certain you will be understood.

  • The guiding mantra is - "Quality of Life is Quality of Communication."

  • Deliver constructive feedback free from assumptions and misunderstanding

  • Be understood the first time every time

  • Support observations with the sense data of what you have seen and heard, thought and felt and inferred

yes indeed, I have gained a new skill by identifying a metaphor and asking leading questions by using the following words See, Hear, Think, Feel will give me a better clearer picture of the other person's view, By using this I think a lot less confusion and assumption will taking place

It seems a bit basic, but then again, I didn't select the advance option.

I heard the instructor simply explain ideas, and use examples to illustrate what he was saying. He used written language and pictures to support learning. I think the simple explanations, and illustrations and pictures helped the instructor communicate clearly. It makes me feel better able to practice the techniques. Because of that I would like to continue hearing more. I also think having a practice time (now with this question) to apply what has been given so far is an excellent way for a person to begin learning to practice it.

A good lesson in how to stop assuming that the other person in a conversation understands the intricacies of what you meant by a simple phrase, something many of us are guilty of, especially when busy. Some more examples of the kinds of phrases/concept words to avoid would be useful in order to recognise them in ourselves. The metaphor and clean language tools will be extremely useful when talking to staff.

The basics of giving feedback were already known to me, so I did not learn that much new until now. I like the part about avoiding an unclear word (dominant), although it is unclear to me if he advises to avoid unclear words completely or if he says it is wise to (as with feedback in general) be clear about what it actually means to me.
The visuals of the video's aren't that great, the green screen could have been applied sharper. And after a while I get tired of looking at the presenter, I want to see something else.

I finished this course a couple of days ago, but I'm still going over the lessons and uncovering deep, deep insights into places where my feedback (and communication in general) is falling short. ~~This topic has always been painful for me, but now it's painful, yet enlightening. Now that I know, I can do something about it. Yay! Still working on it.

~~The instructor has been waaaaay more than accommodating in helping me understand where I have blocks. He's very kind. And very responsive.

~~A really insightful course. Loved/loving it.
