About This Course

Learn React JS to create Single Page Applications (SPA) using modern practices like Context, Reducer, Suspense and more

Learn the world's most popular library for creating user interfaces!

What makes this course different is we take the time to understand *why* we're doing what we're doing. We begin by asking an important question that so many other React courses skip entirely; What problem does React solve?

Once we understand what React is and isn't, we spend the remainder of the course together building the front-end for a real world social media app where you can post, follow other users and even hop into a live chatroom. Along the way we will:

  • Understand what "state" is in React and how to bring our interfaces to life

  • Use the modern "hook" approach with Function Components

  • Leverage React Router to create a Single Page Application with shareable URLs

  • See the power of Context, Reducer, and Immer and create an ideal way of working with state

  • Run code at the perfect moments by understanding the power of useEffect()

  • Use async HTTP requests to communicate with APIs so that our app feels meaningful by working with real data

  • Deploy our app up onto the web so you can share it with your friends and family

This course may be brand new, but this isn’t my first time teaching. I’ve led training sessions for Fortune 500 companies and I’ve already helped over 98,000 people on Udemy and received the following feedback:

"Brad definitely has some of the best techniques to embed the lesson into your mind… hands down these are the best tutorials I have had the opportunity to view."

"Presentation is concise without being tedious… you honestly feel that you have a thorough understanding of the subject."

"…[Brad] explained the process. Not memorize this or that, he explained the process. If you're looking to take a course to understand the foundations of creating websites, look no further."

Become highly valuable and relevant to the companies that are hiring front-end developers; in one convenient place alongside one instructor. If you're ready to begin building with React - I'll see you on the inside!

  • The problem React solves and *why* we should use it (aside from "because it's popular")

  • How to create Single Page Applications with React

  • The ability to keep your code organized and manageable

I've just started the course so, so far i can't say much but by the first lesson i can tell that everything's going to be relaxing and understandable.
For everyone that's already confused, yes you should have some understanding of JavaScript (ES6 preferably) and HTML of course.

HALFWAY: Now that i'm halfway through the course i can safely say that it isn't a bad course to get a taste of react instead of doing a 60hrs+ course BUT i feel like its missing key explanations on some things like useEffect and useState and so on. He shows you how they work but he never really tells you any kind of definition, this might not seem that bad but i feel like it needs it.

A quick short demo (like 2 mins) would probably be a good replacement if you're not keen on definitions.

I feel that this course relies too heavily on a "learning by doing" approach, which may not be suitable for all experience levels. It lacks sufficient explanations, as many steps are simply demonstrated without fully breaking down the underlying concepts. Because of this, I don’t think it’s an ideal course for truly learning React.

For real, that was the best intro video to a course I've seen. Perfect start to an "end in mind" mentality.

The structure and methodology for this couse is excellent and would prompt an out-of-scale top rating. However, the coverage of React Router is obsolete and a source of frustration. Yes, I do understand the challenge of updating a course due to the fast-moving React ecosystem, but from the student's perspective, learning obsolete key technologies is a waste of time. This shaves off two stars. Moreover, WebPack and not Vite is used as a bundler. Using WebPack is of course a valid choice, but no longer the undisputed de facto standard (as claimed in the course) and perhaps not the best choice for a beginner course. At least, some written material re Vite could have been provided. This shaves off half a star. Many times, the author states "this is not a course about HTML and CSS". Fair enough. But the main course project relies heavily on Bootstrap, so a minimal intro to Bootstrap, incl. options to npm install would have been nice.

In conclusion, I bought the course with the expectation that it would equip me with the skills needed to build modern basic React apps without the need to patch up these skills elsewhere. In reality, I had to learn about Vite, modern inclusion of Bootstrap and React Router v.6x on my own. With that (significant) extra effort, the course really helped me get started with React.
