About This Course

Code a Node.js Project with an Online IDE

To a certain extent, it can seem as though different programming languages are only suitable for a specified set of tasks, like building apps or analysing data. If you feel as though you need to be fluent in several in order to get anywhere in the coding world, think again. Node.js is a very versatile (and very popular) language that, if you add it to your skill set, is guaranteed to open doors. Create real time web apps, build APIs, streaming applications or CPU intensive apps, and do it all quickly and efficiently.

Develop Web Applications with Node.js

This Node.js fundamentals online course contains 48 lectures and over 3 hours of content. Although designed for beginners with some web development experience under their belt, those new to coding will be able to pick it up without much difficulty. The goal is simple; learn how to get your node.js web app projects up and running.

聽The course will start off with an overview of what Node.js is and isn't, and what it can and can't do. Once that's covered, you'll begin working with Express and start coding your own Node web app with the help of Bootstrap, Gulp, Node templating engines and express routing. You'll also cover how to use a database with Node.js. By the end of the course, you will have coded your first web app with Node.js and learned everything you need to know to get your own projects started.

聽Whether you're an IT professional or a hobbyist, this course will give you a solid understanding of how Node.js web applications work and how they're designed, administered, and developed. Web developers as well as UI designers, testers and administrators are guaranteed to find it useful.

Tools Used

Node.js was launched in 2009, initially only supported by Linux. Now cross-platform, it is a runtime environment for developing server-side web applications, and many of its basic modules are written in JavaScript. Basically, it builds the server sides of websites (like PHP), but it's capable of much more. It's highly scalable and very efficient, and in short, it's going places.

  • Code a Node.js Project with an Online IDE

  • Use NPM to manage Node.js packages

  • Use Express in a Node.js Web App

Excellent! I learned more in the few hours of this course than larger 30+ hour courses! The course went at a great pace, and the instructor explained each step conceptually before coding anything. My only issue with this course was that most of the fonts were far too small to see clearly.

Pros:
Very good introduction to Node, Express, and Tools like Gulp and Bower. The tools are very useful in real world development.

Cons:
Some videos are cut out and doesn't show the whole development.
No source or no link to tutors' git project.
Can be more detailed by taking a bigger project/application.
Should've been a 'Build from Scratch' and no bootstrap.
C9 is nice introduction, but not very helpful, would rather prefer to setup on env on local machine itself.

Comments:
I would like to have an Advanced version of this course with bigger project to build. Also a more detailed sections/tutorial on tools like Bower, Gulp, Yeoman, configuring enterprise grade applications.

There were some glitches with one video. The course was great for an introductory course. However, supporting documentation would have been useful. I also felt that even though it was only an introduction it could have used a little more information about Node.js itself and less about the other utilities.

* Excellent hands on demo. Quickly gets you started and introduces lots of key concepts, features and related tools.
* I developed locally but the demo follows a cloud IDE so people who don鈥檛 want to install software can get started quickly.
* The only thing missing would be code on github with commit points to co-inside with each of the lessons.
