An Ancient Egypt History Course: A Detailed Study of the Egyptologist Howard Carter and his Search for Tutankhamun

On November 4th 1922, Howard Carter finally discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun, following years of relentless work, which had been financed by Carter's benefactor, Lord Carnarvon.

The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb would become the single greatest archaeological find of all time and, almost overnight, King Tut became a household name.

What Topics Does the Course Cover?

The course begins with a look at the early life and career of Howard Carter, before discussing his relationship with Lord Carnarvon and the commissioned work excavating in the Valley of the Kings.

The discovery of the tomb is then reported on in detail, with a presentation on the findings from the four rooms of the tomb: the Antechamber, the Annexe, the Burial Chamber and the Treasury.

The focus of the course then shifts to Tutankhamun himself, with a look at his family heritage, the politics during his reign and his mysterious death.

Finally, the legacy of Tutankhamun is considered, including information about the media frenzy over King Tut during the twenties, the infamous curse of Tutankhamun and a revival in interest in recent years.

This course gave me a picture of Egypt during the early 20th century with the ups and downs of archeology. I liked the "Did you Know?" sections that gave interesting bits of history, and the questions in the quiz sections reminded me what information to take away from the course. And it was fun.

Hi I am a Deaf person and unfortunately in this course, the auto generated captions were hard to read at times. SO I had to use Google to find me the facts.
