HOW IS THIS COURSE DIFFERENT?

My name is Kathleen, and I've been teaching technology to beginners under the moniker Robobunnyattack! since 2009. I believe that with the right approach, anyone can learn anything.

My goal is to help you develop an intuitive understanding of web technologies, and how to make them work for YOU.

The lessons in this course are perfect for "advanced beginners" who:

  • Are comfortable using WordPress;

  • Know (or are willing to learn) how to use FTP software to move files to and from a web server;

  • Know (or are willing to learn) how to perform some basic configuration tasks via their web hosting provider's web hosting control panel (e.g. cPanel).

If this describes you, then you're ready to learn how to migrate your own WordPress website!

In this course, we'll copy and move a pre-existing WordPress website from one web server to another. As we work together, I'll explain what each step means and WHY we do it, so you can learn more quickly and with more confidence. We'll cover:

  • Why moving a WordPress website is so complicated (and how to approach this);

  • How to prepare your existing site for a successful migration;

  • Free tools you can use to automate and simplify the process;

  • Essential steps for setting up your destination location;

  • Testing, cleanup, and more!

By the end of this course, you'll be able to copy and move an entire WordPress website from one location to another, following best practices every step of the way!

Here's a sample of what my students have to say about my other WordPress courses on Udemy:

"This helped build my confidence to go ahead and take action. Tutor has a passion and super knowledge of her subject." —Tania Y.

"Course was just the right amount of information at the right price. A clean and concise format. Thank you." —Lori J.

"Kathleen's instruction is clear, down-to-earth, and spot on. Her style is devoid of geek-speak and enthusiastic." —Leslie S.

OUT OF DATE MATERIAL: NOT HELPFUL @ ALL. Don't waste your time on this course. I have an entry level understanding of wordpress and although she provides several good recommendations her video is out of date. She also skipped several steps meaning that you would have to try to figure out the in between before she got to that step. 2nd she is not answering questions. So do yourself a favor and find another course. This one is not worth it.

So far, this is a great course for me. I tried on my own to figure this out and it did not go well. This instructor is clear and gives great background to each process.

I had been floundering for a couple of weeks trying to get my Wordpress site move from an outdated platform to the Linxu cPanel platform. This course helped me complete that task. If you are moving your Wordpress site from one server to another or host to another and need to know how to accomplish that, this course is what you are looking for. I had looked at several different Help articles but it was overwhelming. This course told me exactly what I needed.

This course is exactly what I needed. I am a self-taught WordPress web designer. I have been using other tools that seem to have quirks & errors and have, in the past, had to resort to moving sites manually; Which is time consuming. I had heard good things about the Duplicator Plugin for WordPress, and this course offers a thorough, step-by-step walk through the process. With lots of optional info for folks who are newbies - explanations of terms and tools and resources to help people understand - but on separate pages, so if you don't need them, you can skip them. The downloadable check list is great too! The only minor flaw (especially for newbies) is not mentioning that the the FTP tool she uses Cyberduck is a program for Mac/Apple cmputers (I could not find a windows 10 version) - she could note that the most popular Windows FTP program is Filezilla, although there are others. Great course

Really great course that lays out the basic framework for working with the Duplicator Plug-In for moving a WordPress site. The author could have quickly touched on a few issues/options for the Duplicator plug-in like manual zip extraction and pointing out the error log for troubleshooting. There's a lot to cover that could go wrong, which could easily go outside the scope of this course, but a quick pointing out of a few of these tools would have been very helpful to be aware of.
