 Write your own Erlang Program

This Erlang for beginners online course offers an extensive introduction to the world of Erland. Designed with complete beginners in mind, it features 30 lectures and 2.5 hours of content that will teach you all of the Erlang basics (and more besides).

You'll learn about the origins of Erlang, what makes it so different to other languages, and work your way up to building small, compiled programs with this rare language. The emphasis is on hands-on, practical experience, so be prepared to dive straight in at the deep end.

Beginning with installation, features and syntax, you'll quickly get to grips with creating functions with Erlang, conditional flow and looping and working with process IDs. Then it's into the core of Erlang; lists, recursions, comprehensions, pattern matching, types and type conversions, exception handling, records and more.  Tools Used

Erlang is a functional programming language originally developed by Ericsson to build software for its telecommunications products. It's completely different to most other programming languages out there, and is in fact more like an operating system than anything else. It can be used for a variety of tasks including monitoring systems and distributing databases, among others.

  • Understand what Erlang is and where it came from

  • Understand Erlang syntax

  • Know how lists work in Erlang and be able to manipulate them

Strong intro, decent progression, gets pretty bad on video 11. Working with Process ID's was hard to watch. The instructor should be willing to start re-recording if he starts an example and realizes he doesn't quite know how to do something or what it means.

I take courses like these to get a general overview of a topic before diving in books or other materials. For that purpose this short course is very good.

first 3 or 4 videos are just introduction, and history that I really don't need, overall experience instructor is very clear and knowledgeable, I don't really liked the language, erlang is not really my programming language

While the basics of Erlang were covered the examples were a jumbled mess. I expect that an instructor will have rehearsed the script and content he would be using and have it better organized.
