Are you tired of using Google and Yahoo all the time whenever you want to look up anything? Then let us try to build our own Search Engine using PHP and SQL. Obviously there is no way we can make the Google lose the race but we can give a good attempt to create our own search engine.

Let us learn to come up with our own search engine. It will check the keywords searched by users with the keywords in the database then displaying the results. We will use php language and MySql database services in order to implement this functionality. Hence it is expected that you have a good grasp on the basic concepts of both of these before you move on further. We will complete this tutorial making use of the most basic code and not going through the complex SQL queries. It is assumed that you know the basics of Structured Query Language and PHP.

  • By the end of the course you will be able to add data to a MySQL database and manipulate it

  • you will learn how to create tables both the easy and the hard way.

  • you will learn how to use loops and if statements to create something meaningful

This particular lecture had tons of errors in it, but it's ok, you should keep them, because it was nice to see the process of rapidly debugging and solving problems.

This was a pretty good course for a quick exercise. The instructor did note that this was the first course that he published (I did not check to see if he had created any others), and I think it could have been a little more polished. That said, the information was good, and easy to understand. If you are looking for something quick and to the point, this course will do the trick!

I don't generally give a course a 5 as every course could be at least a little better. I misunderstood the point of the course. I thought it was to create a search engine for one's website, but by the end of the course, the demo opened my eyes to a benefit of this course I hadn't realized. I want to watch it again, now. Someone might wonder about why the need to create a search engine. In my current job we get links to sharepoint sites to take care of administrative tasks such as getting approvals. A search engine like this could be an excellent tool for keeping track of such links. Much better than Favorites. I also really like courses that focus on a specific task. I really appreciate this course. I don't really use php or mysql so I'll need to re-work with asp.net but I find the instruction about the concept and approach very helpful to me.

How to create search engines is rarely offered on udemy. It's one of 3 courses here on this site. That's too bad, because search engines are the future of the web. I'd like to see a 'part 2' with two search fields and checkboxes/radio buttons. Implementation o Solr. Overall I give 5 stars! Thank you so much for this training!
