Instructor's presentation was much, much, much too fast. No human being could ever type and create files that fast. Also instructor failed to give information as to why the material is important, give examples of where it would be useful, etc. I am very knowledgeable of Yii and Laravel's configuration files. Yet, he had me lost in his presentation of CakePHP's basic configuration. Also, this is probably not the appropriate point at which to present that information.
Many of the lectures begin with the instructor saying that you would never use what is presented in this lesson but it will serve to illustrate the concept. (For example the unit of Virtual Properties began this way. Virtual Properties is one of the most important concepts in any PHP framework. It is absolutely essential to building anything constructive with CakePHP. Yet, the instructor presents it in a way that is totally useless.)
Each topic in the "course" stands alone and does not reinforce what was introduced in previous topics. Along the way, you don't build anything at all, let alone something that would have a hypothetical usefulness.
There is no emphasis on the basic concepts of adult learning. Things are just presented at a breakneck pace, hurriedly with no discussion of how they might be used, the potential traps or errors, and so on. Learning requires constructive engagement and practice, reinforcement, and the opportunity for the learning to test their understanding and ability to put to practical use what they have learned. There is absolutely none of that in this course.
The name of the organization must be changed from IOLearn. For them, anything with the term "learn" in it is totally fraudulent. There is no learning in this course.
