I am very fond of John's teachings - very clear and to the point. I got helpful new insights to progress with WordPress. The only thing which I missed were the explanations about building a membership site. In the introduction of the course John mentioned this as part of the course. I think it would be helpful if he either changed the introduction in order not to overpromise or to add the missing content about the membership site. Then I would gladly give five stars for this course.
The course is very basic. It only shows how to customize one particular theme, and the customizations themselves are not extensive. Many simple concepts are repeated too often whilst others are glossed over far too quickly, or not addressed at all, especially during the later modules. As another student commented, copying and pasting is not teaching. Having said all that, the instructor is very personable, and the example he uses is a real-world web site, and that in itself is a good basis for such a course. The trouble-shooting approach he used was particularly useful. I just feel that if he could get his verbal delivery (script?) tightened up to reduce the over-repetition, this would have freed up time to address some of the many details that were omitted or not dealt with thoroughly enough, and indeed the more general concepts of working with child themes.

Very good information on how to create a child theme, however some of the methods require updating. For example @import is no longer the way to include parent style sheets and they also require their own functions.php. Also, splitting the course took me by surprise.
John goes through a straight forward presentation of creating a child theme and explains why. Very easy to listen to an follow.
