About This Course

Master Webpack 2 as you deploy web apps supported by Babel, code splitting, and ES2015 Modules.

Webpack is the premier build tool for React and Angular 2 applications.

Deployment?  Covered.  Performance optimizations? We got it.  Custom boilerplate creation?  Its here!

Webpack is notorious for being tricky to configure correctly.  In this course you'll master each major feature of Webpack and learn how to optimize it for your own app.  Webpack has a wealth of fancy features, but each requires in depth knowledge of how they work.  This course is the most comprehensive Webpack course you'll find online, and the only full course on the popular version 2 edition of Webpack.

This course will get you up and running quickly, and teach you the core knowledge you need to deeply understand and build Webpack-based projects.

Tired of downloading boilerplates packages with no idea how to change them?

React and Angular 2 have seen standalone boilerplate packages flourish, but they come with dense configuration setups that make them challenging to change.  With the experience you gain in this course you'll be able to customize your projects to suit your particular needs.

So much content!

  • Learn the difference between ES2015 and CommonJS module systems

  • Load ES2015 code with Webpack's Babel Loader

  • Use Webpack to automatically resize and compress images for optimal load times

  • Implement code splitting to dramatically decrease load times

  • Learn to tweak your React project to work perfectly with Webpack

  • Master versioning of your application to reduce the amount of code your users download

  • Deploy your application to AWS, Heroku, Github Pages, or Surge

Webpack can be confusing to learn, but after taking this course you'll understand that it is a tool that requires just a bit of concentration to master.  Once you hear my explanations of Webpack, you'll come to realize that each concept is straightforward, and only requires the smallest touch of patience to comprehend.  No filler here, just laser focus on the most important aspects of Webpack.

I always build courses I would want to take, and this is no exception.  Every topic is explained in great detail with accompanying diagrams and examples.  You'll learn the back story of each feature and learn where to apply them to solve real world problems.

  • Understand the purpose of Webpack in a modern web app

  • Build custom boilerplate projects to serve ES2015 Javascript

  • Deploy Webpack-based projects to AWS, Heroku, and more

The course is well structured and presented clearly. My only issues are:

1. This is on Webpack 2, and we are currently on Webpack 5. Some of the libraries have been deprecated. However, the materials are still very good, and he is easy to follow.

2. I would have liked to have seen a more complex application. I watched this to help me set up webpack to handle a site with separate HTML, CSS, js, media, and json files (each having sub-folders). I finally figured this out on my own (with help from the ever-error-prone Chat-GPT), but it took me over 20 hours of trial and error).

3. He does not seem to answer questions anymore. I was hoping to cut down my 20 hours to a few hours.

Despite all this, I am glad I purchased this class and found a ton of value, but for the above reasons, I can't give it 5 stars. If I had watched it five years ago, I would have definitely given it 5 stars. He is a gifted instructor, and I appreciate that I didn't have to fight through any heavy accents.

The course really helped me learn about webpack's core concepts, its different configurations, using loaders and plugins and about how deployment works in dev and production environement. I do had problems with dependencies because of latest versions not being compatible inline with the course.

most of packages used in this project is outdated, which makes me had a hard time with a lot of errors, but as always Stephen is great with explanation, but i hope the course dive deep more than this.

Tutor is not updating the course. As a newbie to webpack, I have learnt more from the other students in the Q and A's than I have from the tutor. There's never any errors on his logs (I really wish he would actually create some on purpose so students can learn from them) instead lots of students floundering around with the same issues resulting from version compatibility of modules, struggling to make sense of the log output. My advice - just go for webpack 5 course!

Pro: Easy to understand and follow along
Con: Webpack 2 & other packages are too old now, when using webpack 5 - 1) css is a bit off 2) the bundle files are too large

Great teacher with natural teaching abilities. Many people are complaining about the course being "outdated" although it is clearly stated to be a Webpack 2 course so personally, I have no problem with that. It gave me a solid understanding of webpack concepts, and I will go from there to master the lastest version by looking at the documentation.
Anyway, the course was a pleasure to follow !
