About This Course

Enterprise Structure and Master Data

This is the second part of an example-based, hands-on training series in SAP MM. The goal of this course is to just teach you 2 things - Enterprise Structure and Master Data

If you are looking to become an SAP MM Functional consultant or an end-user (ignore the Enterprise structure section) in SAP MM, this course will teach you the baby steps you need to take before you become one.

Think of this as a course that teaches you Enterprise Structure and Master Data in PLAIN ENGLISH.

What is this course about ?

SAP MM is a very vast subject. It takes at least 30 to 40 hours of learning. It can be very tedious to do all of this in one course. Instead this course  just tries to focus on just 2 topics - Enterprise Structure and Master data.

What will you learn at the end of the course ?

Given a business scenario, you should be able to identify the "Plants" , "Storage Locations", Company Codes and Purchase organizations. It will help you establish the basic building blocks on top of which you lay the rest of the configuration.

Also, Master data - as deceptive and simple as the name sounds is a topic of deep importance. This data is extremely important for understanding the data flow in subsequent sections when we discuss Purchasing transactions in much greater detail.

How long will this course take to complete ?

This course is designed to be a short but gentle introduction to Enterprise Structure and Master Data. Since this course is designed from a fresher's perspective, if you are already an SAP functional consultant ( in other areas of SAP ), then the pace of this course might be a bit slow.

Who can take this course ?

There are 5 kinds of folks who could be taking this course.

1. End users of SAP who want to learn SAP MM Transactions

2. SAP Functional consultants in other modules ( eg., SD, CRM, FICO ) who want to understand the P2P cycle because of cross-functional customisation or integration issues.

3. Freshers who want to get into SAP functional modules.

4. Warehouse managers, procurement managers or other folks who want to into IT as a functional consultant.

5. ABAPers who want to move into functional modules.

  • Understand how the company is represented in SAP ( as Enterprise Structure )

  • Hands-on understanding of Company Code, Plant, Storage Location and other Org Elements

  • Understand Vendors, Materials and their relationships

The experience was quite good, specially due to the instructor experience, who was able to put up the right materials for the students to have a broad understanding of the module. At the same time, he gave some key insights on some common details/problems that might come up. It was also good that the instructor explained the transactions always with the process workflow in mind, so from the perspective of the system end user (which is the one that matters).

So definitely, it was a good experience after all. Although, there are some points which disserve the instructor attention:
- Quality of presentation, such as the video, audio and specially the slides and schemes made in a very amateur way with a basic drawing tool;
- Games/Dynamic of teaching could be improved.

It would be really important to save slides with a pdf version to use them as a reference manual.
