About This Course

How to write and produce great video marketing stories that will attract clients and increase sales

Once upon a time, every web marketer heard that video was the latest, greatest marketing thing they could do.

So they made millions of videos and put them on YouTube and said, "Look at all our videos! You must watch and become our customer!" Yet despite all the videos uploaded, few were watched, less were shared, and almost nobody became a customer. What went wrong?

Every marketer knows that "content is king." So what makes good video marketing content? A good story, that's what!

"Going Hollywood" means making a great STORY that people want to watch and share – and a good story is the magic spice that gets your viewers to take action and become your customer.

A good story, however, is usually what's missing from most marketing videos. This course will teach you how to write and produce Hollywood-style video stories that market your company to your buying and sharing audience.

How We Help You Learn: Much like a TV talk show, your co-hosts include an experienced teacher and his young student. Kevin Campbell sold his first feature film to Lions Gate Entertainment and has 35+ years of professional story-driven video production experience; his student Mindy is an actress who will use his lessons to market her on-camera spokesperson skills to corporate clients.

We'll walk you through each step in ways that makes it fun to learn how to tell stories, with simple exercises that anyone can do at any skill level, from beginners to experts.

From the very first lessons you'll be making online video content that will work to market your business and pull in customers and fans. There's not much waiting around, you get to dive right in!

What are the requirements?

  • You must want to showcase your expertise and passion to the world and want to become a well-known expert in your field

  • You must have a desire to succeed and know that people all over the world share your videos and help market YOU

  • You must not be afraid of video or social media

  • You must be willing to try these exciting video stories and be on camera

  • You must have a phone that can film and an online connection

  • You must have a basic understanding of social media

What Will I get from this course?

  • Learn the structure behind successful short video marketing stories

  • Learn how to write and film successful marketing video stories, even if you're not a creative writer nor have you ever written much of anything before

  • Learn how to release your inner story-telling child that can get excited about your business no matter what you do

  • Understand the steps of non-fiction stories that appeal to your audience where they are online (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

  • Where to put your videos online for the best results

  • How to create a weekly SHOW that's fun to watch and gets clients to like, trust and HIRE you

  • How to help your fans — your non-customers — share your videos and market for you

  • We provide links to top-selling online video marketing experts, so you can study from those who know how to tell great stories.

  • You won't learn a lot of tech stuff. We'll cover the basics of microphones, low-cost teleprompters, lighting and editing, but strictly from a beginner's perspective.

  • Most of all, you'll get a profound sense of what you can create each week to entertain your audience in ways that help them take your call to action (and become a customer). No more staring at a blank screen and wondering, "What video do I make next?"

What is the target audience?

  • Entrepreneurs and small business owners who are struggling to market to the right audience with a limited amount of time and money;

  • Marketing companies who want to offer video marketing to their clients but aren't quite sure what to actually put in their videos

  • It's not for those want to make simple boring blogs or those who want to try out a few videos to see if this works. You go big, or go home!

  • Write and produce entertaining and informative video content on a consistent basis that will market and promote their businesses.

  • Place those video stories in the most effective social media channels to get the best ROI.

  • Define and target their best potential audience, in order to keep their current customers engaged with their brand while also bringing in new clients and getting their videos shared on social media.

I’m the videographer for an environmental non-profit so when taking this course I replaced “customer” with “member” and product with “membership” or “donation.” Even in replacing those words I found this course overall very helpful and look forward to implementing many of these techniques and ideas into our work.

Praise: Kevin is obviously very knowledgeable, I appreciated the study guides for each lesson that asked us the right questions to break down our ideas to create real structured, organized plans. I found the section on knowing your audience to be very helpful in breaking down who our audience is, what exactly they’re looking for, and how we are the best organization to help them. I found the Marketing Your Show section the most helpful as this was the information I came to this class for specifically. I learned so much about YouTube in this course and am really looking forward to putting my newfound knowledge to use.

Areas for improvement: I understand this lecture was produced in 2017 and while most of the information remains true, I would definitely be interested in Kevin doing some updated lessons. We know 2020 changed everything, video content in all forms exploded, technology has changed, television, streaming services, and apps and the way we use them have appeared, expanded, shifted, or completely died off (like Google+). I’d be interested to see what more recent data tells us about audience attention spans, interests, desires, retention, subscription/follow habits, etc. and if he has any suggestions or ideas for how we can be prepared for future shifts in tech and marketing.

Additionally, I would love to see more diversity in the examples. The creators/channels and the branded stories that were highlighted featured all white people, two cats, and one octopus. It was mentioned in the lessons as well as in the sources cited that people want stories relevant and relatable to them. Including a more diverse group of storytellers/creators/companies not only allows more people to connect with these lessons, but showing a wider variety of successful creators from all different backgrounds will have a more meaningful impact on your students and the marketing/video production industry as a whole.

On the subject of choosing examples, even in 2017 and especially in 2023, there are literally billions of examples of content on the internet. With that many options we should be able to choose examples that don’t make people, specifically women, half the population, uncomfortable. As a woman in the broadcasting/journalism/videography/marketing industries I’ve had to fight for my position and prove myself in every job I’ve had. I paid to take this course and would appreciate examples that don’t objectify women. This is a professional course and while a small group of people may find examples like “drunken college girl bikini fail videos” (section 7, v. 40) funny, a larger group of people find them inappropriate, and overall giving the ick. I also understand that while “Sexplanations” is a successful creator/channel, having a random man on the internet show me a woman on a sex swing (section 6, v. 36) does not make me want to run out and start a YouTube channel. Nothing against the creator, her imagery works for her brand, but that's not appropriate imagery for a teacher to be showing students. Again with the literal billions of examples on the internet it should be easy to choose something interesting that doesn’t objectify women or make people uncomfortable.

All that being said, overall I found the information in this course very helpful and was pleased with the resources that allow students to get their ideas down on paper and workshop them. Pending suggested changes, I would recommend this class to learners at any level in their marketing/video production journey and I will keep my eye out for any updated content from this teacher.

this is a heck of a fantastic course! It is engaging, nicely delivered and pleasant to watch (not just because of the lovely girl -- aside from Mindy, Kevin's kinda okay as well). Curious to see what they're getting me into in the upcoming lessons, but I got a neat feeling it's gonna be just great. One of the best I watched on Udemy so far.

Edit: not disappointed, this got even better throughout the course! Would add a sixth star if there were one :)

I like that Kevin and Mindy keep it simple. No need to run out and buy tons of equipment just start with the basics and grow from there. Good practical information and best of all it was realistic.
