Recent Review:

Patrick N. says "Great course to help anyone in the event planning industry.  I've planned events for years but always just kind of winged it, if we made money great.  Now I see you can actually run it like a business and track your incoming and outgoing money.  Far more professional, and will only help me plan nothing but successful events going forward!"

Why You Should Take This Course With Me:

Planning an event is a very large task, and often the financial side is ignored or not clearly understood.  To make a financial success of your events going forward, spend time up front creating a budget where you estimate your revenues and expenses by category.  Further, using your actual results post-event, you can see how good of a job you did planning, where you made money, saved money, or overspent.  At the end, you'll have a bottom line profit amount, attractive graphs and charts, and knowledge to apply to your next event.

As well, the template we build in the course is available for download at the end of the course!

What We Learn In The Course:

  • Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel - no experience required to take the course

  • Create a budgeting, revenue and expense tracking template in Excel

  • Establish a break even revenue amount for your event

  • Categorize revenues and expenses

  • Create simple and useful charts and graphs to summarize results

  • And more! By the end of the course you'll be an event budgeting and profit tracking expert!

At any point if you have a question, please feel free to ask through the course forum, I'd be happy to answer any and all questions.

I have worked with Excel but have yet to feel confident using it. After just the first few lessons of this course, I know what I'm doing. The lessons are practical and immediately applicable for any Excel use.

I took this course to prepare for a career pivot and it was great for getting some exposure into how spreadsheets can be used for event planning. My main takeaways were formatting options to make the spreadsheet easy to read, and basic formulas to make the spreadsheet functional. The only things that could have made this course more applicable would be tips for google sheets, and/or some real life examples for more exposure and context. I would recommend this to anyone making a career pivot or who wants an introduction to spreadsheet building for events.

The excel spreadsheet is almost a copy of an Excel template you get for free. Very basic. Doesn't work out how to determine what your delegate fee should be. How many people you need to break even. Very disappointed.

I use Excel all the time so most of this section is common knowledge to me, but it's always nice to go back over things - as a refresher -

Unfortunately I was very disappointed with this course and I did not get much out of it. I felt it was for absolute beginners and for those who barely have any experience using Excel. I thought the course was mainly focused on making your spreadsheets look visually appealing, two basic formulas (SUM & Multiplication) and just copy/paste the same content every lecture. Additionally, I would have preferred if the instructor had used a real scenario, (or had actual experience creating a real event) instead of making things up along the way. There was a lot of deleting, adjusting of headlines and texts, which I though was time consuming and made the instructor run out of time on each section.
