If you're looking for a quick summary then this course has excellent information as long as you're somewhat knowledgeable about WordPress and comfortable making coding tweaks; even then the list of plug-ins is very valuable.

This course isn't meant for hardcore WordPress developers and if that's you then you won't find a lot here (you'll generally find it too simple and basic), and if you are just beginning with WordPress or even if you've used WordPress for years but rarely do more than create a blog post then you may be overwhelmed and find it "too techie" -- although the plug-in lessons should be understandable to most and useful.

But, if you're in the sweet spot, I can guarantee you'll discover some great, and tremendously useful, techniques, methods, plug-ins and information.

This course is essentially a series of webinars that were recorded live in front of a webinar audience and then broken up into individual lessons.

What I liked

It was very "look over the shoulder", hands-on stuff, so instead of just telling you things, Michel actually showed you how to do things, why and when you'd want to do them (or wouldn't want to do them), and showed some of the potential mistakes you might make.

The list of plug-ins and the run through of each of them was enlightening and, even though I thought I knew a lot, I discovered many gems both in the plug-ins and in interesting ways to use the plug-ins. Michel goes through every recommended plug-in explaining what it's for, how to use it, why to use it and shows specific examples when appropriate.

I liked the way the webinar question and answer sessions were done and presented.

I liked the genial, informal, and friendly teaching style Michel uses and that, while he is clearly an expert in this topic, there was never a hint of the superior attitude that so many experts fall into and that impedes the transfer of knowledge and hinders learning.

What I didn't like

Since these were webinars that were split into lessons, I found several things I didn't like:

1. Some of the lessons, particularly at the beginning were so short that it seemed that a lesson had barely started before it was time to do all the clicking necessary to start the next one.

2. A few of the lessons cut off in mid-sentence, while a few others had "dead air" at the end of them.

3. There was a lot of hands-on live demonstrations but many times the screen was so small it was hard to read and particularly hard getting the Web addresses (URLs) of many of the sites was difficult without a "stop, rewind and replay" a few times each -- a callout on the videos with the URL would be nice like was done at the beginning. Also, a few times what Michel was showing was off the screen so you couldn't see them.

4. The list of plug-ins reviewed dragged on a little too long, cutting that down would have allowed more time for other things and more depth on some of the more complex things.

You'll notice that not many of the things I didn't like about the course had anything to do with the content of the course.

Michel well exceeded my expectations and the course was well worth the time I invested in it.

I certainly look forward to more courses from the Licorice Group and Michel Fortin.

FYI, and as an aside to udemy, I tried viewing the course in a 800x600 browser and the UI elements overlapped and made some of the UI links unclickable until I made the browser screen bigger. This happened on the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome using the standard font sizes.

I am only 23 Lectures in on this 147 Lecture course.

I love how each topic is broken down into chunks that allowd me to learn and implement it right then and there. It will be so much easier to come back to a "specific topic" and re-watch just that topic when I run into something on a website that I need to utilize from what Michel has taught.

I have learned so much and can't wait to take my websites (and my customers' websites) to a whole new level...and save so much time by implementing the things Michel is teaching in this course.

Can't wait to finish the rest of this course...but I wanted to take a moment and give encouragement to anyone thinking of purchasing this course...IT IS AWESOME...and you won't be disappointed. I promise it will be money very well spent that you will recover over and over again in the time saving techniques he teaches you in this course!
